Hey everyone - the picture above is me holding one of my three girl rats, Mattie. She’s only a year old but unfortunately she’s developed a very large mammary tumor that makes it hard for her to move around and has definitely affected the quality of her life. As an unemployed teenager, I don’t have many ways to acquire money, and certainly not the amount it would take to get Mattie surgery at the vet’s. Bringing Mattie to the vets would cost $30 for the visit and $110 for the surgery and anesthesia. I really want to get Mattie the surgery so that she can enjoy her remaining time without a giant tumor attached to her side, leeching her energy every day and slowly taking it’s toll on her health. I wouldn’t ask for donations usually, but when it comes to my animal’s health I suppose you could say I’ll do pretty much anything, so if anyone could find it in their heart to donate a dollar or two both myself and Mattie would be extremely, extremely grateful.
Even just $1 would help. The donation button is up on my tumblr (strangeandradiant) - I’m asking for donations through Paypal. All donations will go toward Mattie’s medical expenses.
As any rat owner knows, even though they only live for a short while rats touch their owners hearts every day with their boundless energy, affection, curiosity and enthusiasm. Every rat has a personality and a place in their owner’s heart. Mattie is very shy due to the fact that she was considered a ‘feeder’ rat before I bought her and therefore wasn’t handled by humans when she was young, but she’s still an affectionate girl who loves to snuggle in my hair. Before her tumor hampered her movement one of her favorite things to do was run around my room, climb up all the shelves in my closet and sleep in my sock bin. Now that she can’t move as well, she’s content to sit on my pillow next to me an watch tv as well as steal sips of Dr. Pepper every now and then. I love my rats just as anyone loves a kitten or a dog, and I really hope that by doing this I can help Mattie’s life improve immensely.
Signal boost for Mattie—keeping her in my thoughts!

Look at my new little baby rat :) Her name is Arya.
What a beautiful little rat.

Retro glamour shot.
Oh man, I need a “things that are superb” tag, because THIS IS SUPERB.

I would appreciate it if a post could be dedicated to my rat, London, who was in my life from 15 September 2010 until 9 March 2012. She was the best companion anybody could ask for but unfortunately continued to develop tumors. After three removals, her forth developed on her face, preventing her from eating or drinking without being fed through an eye dropper. She was put down painlessly, but it was the worst thing I’ve ever had to do. I will continue to miss her like crazy.
I love you so much, Goober. I really hope this was the best choice for you. I hope you continue to be spoiled with all the warm blankets, crackers, and noodles you could ever want.
Rest In Peace, London ♥
